Flow Series

My first series “Flow” is now complete!

The idea partly evolved from the phrase “Blood, Sweat and Tears.” I started with “Tears” and ran with it, associating each liquid to a color. After combining the elements of paint, shapes, and primary colors I got a very simple, clean and graphic look.

Tears

Just added “Tears” to my portfolio.  It’s the first piece of a series I’m working on.  It’ll most likely be comprised of three pieces, so I’ll blog about them once they’re all done!

Aquatic process

Now that I’m finally done with this piece… I can write a little bit about the process! (^0^)I’m just going to give a brief description per step.  But before I start let me note that this piece was done with watercolors on watercolor paper. Okay here goes!

1. So here is my line art.  For this I used a size 01 and 03 pigma pen.  First I ink the figure evenly using only the 01 pen.  Then I take my 03 pen to fill in corners to create some shadow.

2. Now its time to paint!  First I just wet the area I’m going to paint so that it spreads the color making it fairly light.  Think of it as a base color.  TIP: the more water you add the lighter the color!  So here I’ve started with her face and the lower section of the hair.

3. In this step I spread the color around to the upper section of the hair and added a navy blue to the turquoise from the previous step.  I just apply the paint in the desired area and move it around with my brush.  I just keep playing with it until its blended to where I want it.

4. Here I just continued the previous step with blending the colors.  I’ve added some green and extra water to the lightest areas.

5. In this step I’ve worked on the bubbles and the fish.  I painted them the same way I explained in step 2.  Always starting with wetting the paper then applying the paint.  For the bubbles I mixed purple and turquoise and for the fish I used orange.

For the finishing touches I added some red to the fish and finished the face and body section with a sponge brush.  And after some color adjustment on Photoshop we get the newest addition to my portfolio, “Aquatic.”

しあがり。
